Director of Youth Ministry – Pittwater Parish

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the vibrant leadership team at the Catholic Parish of Pittwater

The Director of Youth Ministry aims to uphold the following goal for Youth Ministry in the Parish of Pittwater – ‘To develop and maintain a young Catholic community of disciples that really lives the Gospel’.  The Youth Minister will work under the leadership of the Parish priest and with other parish staff and leaders, and will be responsible for the youth programs and events in the parish.

-    is highly motivated and pro-active in leadership skills
-    can work effectively in a team and can work well with adults and students.

Classification: Part Time (18-20 hours)

Work Schedule:

Weekdays/evenings     - Thursday and Friday (*plus extra office day if required)

Weekends       - Sunday nights


Qualifications (Education/ Background)

• Tertiary or certificate qualification in comparable field of study is recommended. Applicants who are currently undertaking study will be considered.
• Completed Higher School Certificate or equivalent is necessary.
• A good knowledge in theology would be an advantage.
• Able to adapt to Windows as well as Mac OS platforms. Must have good word processing skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel etc)
• Familiar with updating, managing websites (simple videos, photos and articles)
• Must have good on-line communication skills (facebook, twitter, youtube)
• Any experience in marketing or advertising would be advantageous.

Responsibilities


The Youth Minister would be responsible:
• to manage and run Thursday night ‘100% SOUL’ young adult group
• to manage and run Friday night SOUL sessions youth group
• to manage and run the various ministries at SOUL mass (readers, welcomers, offertory etc)
• to identify, train and mentor other young leaders from the parish to assist with the running of youth groups and other activities.
• manage a database of all youth contacts, parents and older students.
• provide duty of care - pastoral care
• prepare schedules and rosters for all ministries.
• prepare forms, permission notes and sign in sheets and other forms for youth groups.
• manage the SOUL / parish website
• manage online communication and advertising via facebook, twitter, youtube of photos and video footage from youth groups.

The Youth Minister is required to work under the direction of the Parish Priest. After six months there will be a review of the work undertaken, conducted by the Parish Priest.
The Youth Minister will take on a leadership role as part of the team at Pittwater Parish, and therefore will be required to adhere to the vision and mission statements and the core values of Pittwater Parish. They must act at all times as a representative of the Parish, displaying care, responsibility and integrity in all that they do.

Parish Priest

Fr George web

The Parish Priest is Fr George Kolodziej sds. He came to Pittwater Parish in October of 2008. He came from Poland to Australia in 1994 where he quickly learned English.  He spent six years in Perth at Carolyn Chisolm College as Chaplain. From there, he moved East to become Chaplain to St Leos College Wahroonga. He was also Assistant Priest (at weekends)  in the Pymble Parish for two years. Whilst remaining as full time Chaplain at Leos, he was then transferred to St Patricks Church, East Gosford where he was Assistant Priest for six years.  Whilst in Gosford, Fr George was also involved in the rehabilitation of people with addictions.

Fr George is a registered Clinical Psychotherapist. He has two Masters degrees with specialties of Theology, Psychotherapy and Pastoral Care. His key interest is Church Ministry- helping people to find God in their lives and to discover that He loves them. In his spare moments- which are few- he likes travel. He speaks a number of languages (five or six at last count).

Assistant Priest

 

The Assistant Priest is  Fr Bronislaw (Bronek) Pietrusewicz SDS.

Fr Bronislaw was ordained by John Paul II on 28 May 1989. After his ordination he worked for five years as a very successful Director of Vocations in Poland. 

He came to Australia in 1994 and spent two years helping in Greenmount Parish. Since then he has worked as Parish Priest of Bruce Rock Parish, Archdiocese of Perth and Parish Priest in Ocean Reef Parish (2001 -2006). Parish Priest of Carnarvon Parish, Diocese of Geraldton (2007-2012) and since the beginning of  2013 as Parish Priest of Greenmount, Archdiocese of Perth. Fr Bronek was re-elected last September for his third consecutive term as the Vicar-Superior of the Salvatorians of the Australian Region.

Bishop Bernard O'Grady

Bishop Bernard O'Grady,  a member of the Dominican Order (Order of Preachers, OP) arrived in Pittwater Parish in January 2008 as the "Priest in residence", living in the Avalon Presbytery.

Bishop_ Bernard

Bishop Bernard was born in Adelaide and educated there by the Dominican Sisters and the Christian Brothers. In 1950 he entered the Dominican Order and studied in Melbourne and Wahroonga, Sydney before being ordained in Adelaide on December 1st 1956. Following one year of further study in Wahroonga he was appointed in 1958 to the newly opened Dominican Mission in the then Western Solomons.

He worked in various parishes and was also Catholic Education Director for the Gizo Diocese which had been formally established in 1964. During this time many new schools were opened and he was awarded an MBE for educational service as well as development work within the Western Solomons.

In 1981 he was elected as Prior (Superior) of the Dominican Novitiate and Retreat House at Blackfriars in Canberra where he spent six years engaged in givng Retreats and Spiritual Direction.

Following another two years back in the Solomons, in 1989 he was appointed to the Dominican College part of the Holy Spirit National Seminary in Bomana Papua New Guinea. There he was engaged in priestly and religious formation and lecturing at the Seminary.

Media & Communication
The media and communication coordinator is Laura Ee, who works in the Parish Office. Her main responsibilities are producing the bulletins, preparing the powerpoints for masses and all the parish identity and support in design.

Music Director

Joshua Willard

Josh Willard has been actively involved in the music ministry of Pittwater Parish since 2007, and became Music Director in 2012. He completed Jazz Performance studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and performs reguarly as a saxophonist and pianist in Sydney.
