"ACOSS has praised the fairness of the overall Budget. However, it will not address the deep concerns we have about the adequacy of income support and family payments for people on the lowest incomes." - Dr Cassandra Goldie, .ACOSS CEO
Dr John Falzon, our National CEO, has also criticised the Budget on is failure to deliver relief for sole parents and the unemployed. He said "Tonight’s Budget confirms one thing that both sides of politics agree on. And that’s their belief in the existence of an undeserving poor. Their message is that if you’re poor it’s because you’re just not trying hard enough. So the unemployed are left below the poverty line. Newstart has not received its much-needed boost of $50 a week. And a $700 million chunk of the surplus has been skimmed from the pockets of sole parents and their children".
Dr Falzon adds "The young unemployed bloke scraping by on $35 a day and we wonder why we he doesn’t get a haircut before going for a job interview, or the single mum who has just been forced down to $38 a day on Newstart. They remain unheard. The middle-aged mum or dad on low wages or no wages as they battle to re-enter a workforce from which they have been dumped like so much human garbage. They remain unheard."
Vinnies however hears their cry for help, especially the cries of the poor children, Children need food for their growth and well being; we supply the food cards. They also need a clean, warm environment at home; we supply the needy with energy Energy vouchers. You too can help by dropping a coin in the Poor Box at the entrance to the church.

Testimonials of our RCIA
(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
Easter 2012 saw the completion of the most recent RCIA program in our Parish of Pittwater. Three Catechumens received the Sacraments of Initiation and another three were welcomed into full communion with our Church at the Easter Vigil Mass.
Here are some testimonials we wish to share with all of you:
“So I spoke to Father George – he had been expecting me! How did he know? … And so started my journey towards my welcoming into the Catholic Faith. I did, however, think I would reserve judgement along the way as there were a few contentious points I had regarding the ‘belief systems’ (!), but without it being a conscious decision that judgement dissipated due to the ease with which wisdom and enlightenment was being imparted each week by all the RCIA instructors.”
“I enjoyed every piece of it, from the simple fact that I met tremendous people (really, this group is so nice!) to the deepest knowledge of our faith you explained so nicely, so completely. My intimate relationship with God went from nothing, to an incredibly enjoyable daily need.” “It may take a while before I could understand and ‘master’ my faith as I would like to, but really you showed me the way, guided me, and exhorted me to go my own way. This is like raising your own child …”
“The RCIA sessions have been so informative, interesting and inspiring in a relaxed and warm environment. The instructors have guided us with such care, nurturing and understanding us and attending to our inquiries, bringing us along the journey towards our destination where we begin our new life. And now, thanks to them and thanks be to God, we are home! Amen”
SOUL Kids
A picture tells a thousand words and this picture tells a thousand words about Soul Kids, a childrens’ youth group in Avalon that was launched by Simon Hyland last month and meets after 9am Mass at Maria Regina Church on the 4th Sunday of each month (except August and December).
Thank you to Simon and his assistant, Miles Abrahams and all the parents and children who attended the launch.
We now have a roster of wonderful parents helping to co-ordinate morning tea for the Soul Kids gatherings for the remainder of the year.
Children and their parents or carers attending 9am Mass at Maria Regina Church in Avalon on any of the above Sundays are all invited to morning tea after the Mass under the Church following which there will be games and activities for the children (Soul Kids) organised by Simon Hyland. It’s a lot of fun.
If parents or carers could continue to contribute to the success of Soul Kids by bringing their children along, as well as a plate of cakes, snacks or fruit to share at the morning tea, that would be great!

The Laity plays a major part in Pittwater Parish. Here is a video celebrating the role of the laity. It will give you an idea of what happens in the Parish.
The music is provided by our very own Soul Band and the third section was composed, sung and self-accompanied by Lauren from our Parish.
